‘The most comprehensive guide to Scottish gardens and nurseries ever published . . . For those of us who thought they knew Scotland well, it is full of wonderful surprises’ – Scotland Magazine

This book is a compact colour guide of the largest survey of Scottish gardens ever mounted and the first such guidebook to all that Scotland can offer garden and plant lovers. Including descriptions of virtually all Scotland’s gardens which are open to the public, it recommends when to visit and what to look out for. Gardens are described in a pithy and lively style. Also covered are specialist nurseries, garden centres, wildflower walks, shows, public parks and more. The book includes useful maps showing routes for day trips and short-break tours and is illustrated throughout with full-colour images by Ray Cox. This is the ideal book for the Scot or the tourist who wishes to explore the world of gardens and plants in Scotland.

Kenneth Cox, the son and grandson of renowned plantsmen, is himself a nurseryman, gardener and garden centre owner at Glendoick, near Perth, Scotland, world famous for rhododendrons. As a plant-hunter, he has led many expeditions to unexplored parts of Tibet and India and discovered new rhododendron species and introduced several plant species for the first time. He has also made many successful rhododendron and azalea hybrids and has written nine books on plants and plant-hunting. His book Garden Plants for Scotland was published in 2008 and Fruit and Vegetables for Scotland was published in 2012.

Ray Cox is a full-time garden and plant photographer operating mainly in Scotland. His work, which includes photography for The Scottish Gardener (Birlinn 2005), has been published in a wide range of magazines, newspapers, books, websites, calendars and greetings cards in the UK, Europe and America.
