Wild Country Backpacking in the Scottish Highlands and Islands :
£25.00
This inspirational large-format guidebook details 30 backpacking routes in the Scottish Highlands and Islands. There is one single-day route; the others range from 2 to 4 days, with many suitable for a long weekend. Visiting the more remote and seldom-frequented corners of the country, each expedition is a celebration of Scotland’s wild places, the preserve of those willing and able to carry their own shelter and supplies, with enough experience and self-reliance to navigate proficiently and stay safe in an environment which can easily become inhospitable.
Although some routes visit bothies, most call for at least one night’s wild camping.
Overview data, route description and 1:100,000 mapping are provided for each of the routes and they are illustrated with stunning colour photos. An introduction offers background information about the Highlands’ rich geology, plants and wildlife and the historical and cultural context of Scotland’s ‘wilderness’. There is also practical information on preparing and
equipping for an incursion into these isolated locations and advice for those looking to expand their experience of wild-country backpacking.
